About the JPG format

JPG（JPEG）は写真のために設計された非可逆圧縮形式です。人間の目が気づきにくい情報を間引くことで、元の 10 分の 1 以下まで容量を削れます。デジタルカメラの標準であり、Web 上の写真の大半がこの形式です。

圧縮率は保存時に選べ、品質と容量を自分で決められます。ただし保存を繰り返すたびに少しずつ劣化するため、編集途中の保存には向きません。
